Baptism is one’s public identification with God’s covenant family, the church. For an adult, it is the public declaration of faith in Jesus Christ. We are “buried” with him in baptism, and “raised” to a new life in Him For both adults and children, it is a sacred event in the presence of the Holy Spirit, and a covenant before God with His church. We believe baptism is cause for joyful celebration in the life of our church family.
Baptism is a symbol of our salvation…it shows a good conscience toward God…it unifies us as believers, confirming that we belong together. The inner washing of the sin from our hearts must always come first. But the Bible is also clear that Christ-followers must follow Christ. If He said baptism was important, then it is important.
We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.Romans 6:4
